Composites – Fibers & Materials division with a focus on thermoplastic material modules based on carbon and glass fibers
Graphite Materials & Systems presents powders made from expanded natural graphite as highly thermally conductive plastic additives
Wiesbaden, October 2, 2017. At FAKUMA, the international trade fair for plastics processing, from 17.-21. October 2017 in Friedrichshafen, both divisions of the SGL Group, Composites – Fibers & Materials (CFM) and Graphite Materials & Systems (GMS), will be exhibiting at a joint stand.
In addition to established products such as short-cut and ground carbon fibers, the CFM division also shows its visitors innovative semi-finished products based on carbon and glass fibers with a thermoplastic matrix. This thermoplastic material kit from SGL Group contains semi-finished products with a uniform matrix for the greatest possible flexibility in design and material processing. The basis of the thermoplastic composite materials are 50k carbon fibers, which have an adapted sizing especially for thermoplastics. Unidirectional (UD) tapes are used to reinforce components according to the load path. Organic sheets can be built up according to customer requirements by using UD tapes, non-woven fabrics or fabrics or fleeces. Tapes and organic sheets can be processed using the thermoforming process, among other things. For additional reinforcement through injection molding, the SGL Group offers long fiber reinforced thermoplastic granules (LFT). With the help of a demonstrator, SGL will present several examples of the combination of thermoplastic composite materials. The latest development in the field of thermoplastic profiles, which can be used for local reinforcement in combination with injection molding, for example, will also be on display at FAKUMA.
